Sunday morning delights

12 Jun

1. “Runaway” sunglasses by Sabre. I’ve been crushing on a lot of sunglasses this season, but somehow these skyrocketed to the top of my list in, oh, 24 seconds. Probably because they are less than half the price of all the ones I have been lusting after, but also, they are the most perfect oversized cat-eyes. Meow. Then Google checkout took 10 seconds. Uh, scary.

2. Maison Margiela ring set. I bought them used (ahem – vintage, darling), but still in good condition. Another thing to cross off my “NEED to have in my life” list. Hurrah!

3. We hosted a baby shower yesterday afternoon that included a dessert buffet. I baked Peanut Butter Cheesecake Brownies, but there were also amazing macaroons from La Petite France, cupcakes, a lemon meringue pie, a pavlova, pastries, ice cream… and though I sent everyone home with leftovers, I’ve still got tons in the fridge. Not that I’m complaining. Mmmmm…. macaroons for breakfast.

5 Mar

… good things come to those who wait.

The Maison Martin Margiela ring I was lusting after earlier this season is now mine. *insert starry eyes here*

In other MMM news, I’ve decided against the leather shopper because I realised that it measures in at a whopping 70cm high, which is waaaaaaay too tall for my short-ass frame. *sob* Ditto the Jil Sander plastic shopper because I realised it’s waaaaaaay too much of “this season”. *shrug* So it’s back to the mamma-needs-a-brand-new-bag drawing board for me.

Hope you’re having a fab weekend. Besides MMM, mine so far has been filled with loads of sleep, cuddles with the cat, grilled cheese sandwiches and Premiership football on the telly. Oh, and stalking style.com for the latest pics from Paris. *bliss*

Joli good!

2 Mar

I’ve been looking for black ankle boots with a manageable heel (read: everyday boots) for awhile… and though I’ve clearly been seduced by some cowboy as of late, I’ve also been looking at versions of combat boots (preferably Ann Demeulemeester – ha! – but vintage will do), praying for some sort of Margiela Tabi boot fire sale and come very close to purchasing the Margiela Replica boot at 70%. But today I stumbled upon the Acne Joli boots I’ve fancied for ages at half off. (Note to my readers not domiciled in Sweden: Acne is waaaay cheaper here.) I bought them. ‘Nuff said?

No, I should probably explain. I love the block heel, the diagonal seam, the two-way zipper at back. And though it doesn’t specify in the description, the other Joli boots do have rubber soles. So hopefully, I can wear them even in the rain! And the kicker? They came online more or less out of the blue (I, uh, stalk the Acne webshop) and were the last ones in my size. I’ve said it before about buying the last in your size during sales: It’s truly meant to be.

So while I will always welcome a little Demeulemeester or Margiela into my life, for now I’m Joli content (ho!ho!ho!).

Doin’ the shopping

25 Feb

Today is payday and quite predictably I’ve been trawling the internet for a hit. I actually was stalking a few items earlier this week in the final final final sales around the world wide web (namely, Margiela boots and Pamela Love necklace), but some junkie far more desperate than me beat me to it. The nerve, huh?

So I had to go hunting in new grounds. And here’s what I’ve settled on, but not 100% decided (i.e. no whipping out the wallet… yet):

The Jil Sander market bag. It’s plastic fantastic and the colour is gorgeous.

And though some, if not most people would balk at the idea of spending roughly 110 euros on a plastic bag, I don’t see it any different than buying canvas versions of certain designer bags for much, much more. I find Raf Simons’ concept of high-fashion shopping bags hysterically funny. And mighty desirable.

However, if it’s the concept or even humble shape that I am fond of, then this Maison Martin Margiela version is the ultimate. In soft, buttery nappa leather, I can’t decide between the black or warm grey.

The Margiela shopper is roughly 250 euros more than the Jil Sander. Is it worth it? I’ll have to ponder this a bit more before committing. And yes, I AM committing because my poor Alexander Wang Rocco has a few injuries that seem way too common with Wang bags and my trusty Vivienne Westwood (canvas!) is also beginning to fall apart after what I believe is six years. *Sniffle*

Gosh, doin’ the shopping never looked so good…

One day, my pretties

Maison Martin Margiela, Tabi Boots at Luisaviaroma

Probably would still pick black over white – or even better… grey! – but these are still looking pretty gnarly. Yes, I used the word gnarly. Live with it.

Oops, I did it again…

25 Dec

First and foremost, MERRY CHRISTMAS! It’s just been me and the hubby this year in Stockholm. We fancied relaxing on the couch, catching up on telly, eating tons of good and bad food, boozing our faces off in the comfort of our own home, etc., etc… it’s been absolute bliss. Never underestimate to power of a “staycation”.

This time at home, however, has also given me hour upon hour of uninterrupted sale-browsing online. Yah, I know, the very last thing I needed. I trawled through endless pages of mighty tempting items. Another pair of Rag & Bone shoes I probably don’t need. Erdem dresses. Christopher Kane. Sonia Rykiel. Giuseppe Zanotti. Save Rag & Bone, all were thankfully still a little out of my, ahem, range. So in the end, with the Browns‘ sale going live today, I managed to pick up the Margiela sneakers Dave has been lusting after for ages and settled on a pair of bad-ass Pamela Love earrings for me:

Unfortunately, the credit card carnage did not end there. ASOS sent a quite friendly e-mail informing me of a further 10% off on sale items if I used a fancy code. So that CC Skye ring I’ve been hankering after for awhile? Bought for a song. And since I’ve been needing hoarding knitwear, an oversized gold jumper by Reiss will do me fine.

What this all means is that starting this very moment, the SHOPPING BAN™ has returned. It has to. Cue the angels singing…… now.

I’m going to have to be very strong this time. Because the Net-a-porter sale must be any minute now. *Whimper*
